In the early days, blogging started as a way for individuals to talk about their interests in diary-style entries. Nothing has changed much since then except that now, there are various ways to earn through blogging. The most common methods of blog monetization include:

13. Create and sell your own crafts

With the recent lockdowns, many Filipinos were left to their own devices. This increase in creativity resulted in the creation of various arts and crafts like pottery, furniture, and handmade jewelry. Naturally, you can see these items online — on Facebook, Instagram, or even on a dedicated marketplace like Etsy and Karton (as shown in the image below). Even if there are a lot of apps and software right now that converts audio to text with artificial intelligence, nothing still beats the old way of transcribing videos and audios — through manual transcription. Amazon Mechanical Turk or MTurk is a marketplace where you can find macro jobs that you can perform virtually like data validation, research, content moderation, and others. One of the best examples of a mechanical turk job is tagging images. The reason why you’re able to search for images using search engines (or even use an image as the search query itself) is that most images you see online are tagged with keywords. Depending on your qualifications and experiences, becoming a software tester could be lucrative. As you can see from the job ad below on JobStreet PH, most companies pay software testers anywhere around 20k to 40k pesos. JobStreet Depending on the company you will be working with, some may ask you for software tester certifications. However, there are a lot, especially local ones, who don’t really care about these certifications as long as you can answer their questions during the interview. 35. Provide virtual assistance

Becoming a virtual assistant is like becoming a personal assistant of someone. The only difference is that you help with the tasks virtually. These tasks could be anything from organizing files down to managing a WordPress website. On the popular website Making Sense of Cents, Kayla Sloan shared in an interview how she was able to make 450,000 pesos a month as a virtual assistant. When the Philippine government started implementing the nation-wide lockdown, there has been a steady spike in the ecommerce trend. The reason? Many Filipinos turned to online selling as a means to earn. Notice on this trend (via Google Trends) how the term “ecommerce” spike from April to June of 2020: Google Trends Although there are now platforms like Lazada and Shopify where anybody can upload their own products, nothing still beats having your own website hosted on a quality hosting service like z.com. With a WordPress website, you can build your own ecommerce store using the WooCommerce plugin. In addition, having a website of your own gets you more control and flexible over your online store. If you don’t have that capital but you’re certain your software would work, you can search for investors or even learn how to create the software yourself. According to Lifewire, you can generate a hundred pesos per month if you could attract and bring in just one customer a day. There’s wisdom behind the popular line nowadays “do it for the gram”. That is, you can get paid as an Instagram influencer (or even a model) without you even planning for it. Just rake a lot of followers and brands will start to notice you. In an article by Sellfy, they are putting the figures between a thousand to 2,500 pesos per post for accounts that are new or have fewer than 100k followers. For those with a lot of followers, it’s possible to ask for more than 50k pesos a post. Kathryn Bernardo is a good example of a popular figure in the Philippines that has Instagram deals. One online journalist shared on HuffPost how he was able to make around 3 million pesos in a year. HuffPost Fortunately, you don’t really need a bachelor’s degree in journalism or even in writing. 49. Become a freelance copywriter

On this list, becoming a freelance copywriter is one of the ways you can earn millions in a month. If you’re not familiar with copywriting, it’s still a type of writing but with the intent and purpose of advertising or selling a particular product or service. Copyhackers ran a copywriter salary survey in 2017 and found out that more than 50% of the respondents are earning more than 2 million pesos a year — and that’s the lowest bracket. Copyhackers Some copywriters charge by the hour or per project. But those who earn more actually charge a small upfront fee and ask for a percentage of the sales. LinkedIn is like Facebook, but for professionals. Although it’s technically a social media platform, professionals have been using LinkedIn as an online platform to network with others and find better opportunities. If you could learn how to use LinkedIn the best way possible to attract clients, then you will have legions of customers willing to pay you money. Amazingly, according to this article from Connectzapp, you can earn anywhere from a thousand pesos per hour to almost twice that amount. Travel consultant or agent salary Although the pandemic has clearly disrupted travels around the world, it would not be long now until it’s restored. Websites that are older, have more growing traffic and profit, and higher domain authority sells the highest. Jacob Millen, a popular copywriter and content marketer, spent around 3 million pesos to buy a recipe website at the start of 2020. After a few months, it’s bringing him more than 150k pesos a month. Buy and sell websites There are two paths you can go with this. First, you can either build a profitable blog and then sell it afterward. Or, you can buy domains, build them up, earn in the process, and sell them again. For a start, you can create a website hosted on z.com for as low as a hundred pesos per month. Stock trading is one of the best investment methods out there. But there certainly people out there who were able to make a comfortable living from trading the right stocks at the right moment. Since online stock trading became a thing, thousands of Filipinos have dipped their hands in it. This made it easier for anyone to start trading stocks. Among the online stockbrokers in the Philippines include COL Financial, First Metro Security, and BDO Nomura. COLfinancial page Some are in for the long haul while others are consistently tracking which stocks have risen and fallen so they can act on it right away. To start trading currencies, you need to use a platform like Forex.com: Forex.com Take note that similar to stocks trading, there’s really no assurance that you could earn money unless you’re willing to stick with it long-term. However, for you to earn from cryptocurrency mining, you need to have a strong, dedicated unit for it (especially a graphics processing unit or GPU). Or, you can also use a cloud platform like Genesis Mining. Genesis Mining Naturally, you would earn more if you have your own dedicated unit. But this is costly. However, if you already have a decent gaming computer, it’s a good way to earn passively while you sleep. A lot of Filipinos want to work out but can’t or won’t go to the gym. This is where the opportunity lies. Globe compiled a few examples of studios that are offering online classes. Online Classes The good thing is that you don’t need to be a gym trainer to become an online fitness trainer. As long as you know what you’re doing, customers who need guidance will be flocking to you.   If you’ve got experience in application integrations and solutions, you could become a system integration specialist. You will be in charge of troubleshooting any existing application integrations and provide technical support to the development team. Rest assured that as long as you were able to demonstrate that the data was obtained in compliance with those laws and that those people knew their data could be sold. But if your clients are international, it’s not a stretch to say that you can live comfortably in the Philippines and buy most of the things you want. On the other hand, you can also sell WordPress themes (#73 of this list) as a website designer. 81. Develop WordPress themes

If you know web development, then you should know that you can make money by developing WordPress themes. As long as you have an eye for design, there will always be a WordPress user who will like some of your themes and may even buy your premium ones. You could still earn from a theme you designed 2 or 3 years ago (as long as you continue providing updates and support). As the PlayStation 5 is being released, the demand for game developers is already increasing. But be warned that the path to becoming a game developer isn’t easy. It’s not as simple as web development or mobile development. Since it’s a hard job, game developers are paid handsomely. It’s not a stretch to say that the minimum pay for game developers is 50k pesos. Much more if the client is a foreign company. 86. Become an ethical hacker

White hat hacking (or commonly called ethical hacking) is a penetration test done on a software or website to evaluate its security. It’s the opposite of black hat hacking where the hacker seeks to penetrate a website or software for malicious intent. This is quite a dream job for people out there (especially young ones) who want to prove themselves in the industry. Ethical hackers earn a lot. For example, the listing below from Glassdoor indicates that the base salary for jobs that require ethical hacking skills is about five million pesos. There are a lot of certification programs you can take like the ones from CEH Training and iCert Global. In today’s digital world, data analysts play a huge part in almost everything — from marketing to customer feedback. A data analyst collects data and analyzes it to answer relevant questions related to the goal of data collection. In the Philippines alone, data analysts are paid around a hundred pesos per hour according to PayScale. That number is even higher with international clients. PayScale The good news is that you can actually become a data analyst even without a degree. The bad news is you have to learn everything from scratch. 88. Become an expert in machine learning and AI

Machine learning and artificial intelligence is trending right now — almost everyone wants a piece of it. That’s why there are various jobs out there related to machine learning and AI, from programming to writing about them. Here’s an example of a machine learning job post on Upwork: Job post If you can’t handle technical knowledge, it’s still beneficial to learn as much as you can about machine learning and AI. This is another online money-making method that may be unfamiliar with many Filipinos. Most companies send out newsletters to regularly keep in touch with their subscribers and deliver news and information to them. That’s why you see email opt-in features on most websites (especially on blogs). Unfortunately, not everybody has a good eye. That’s why many of these companies hire someone to design their newsletters and make it attractive for their subscribers. These subscribers are valuable since they can be monetized by regularly sending them sales emails and newsletters. This could become quite profitable. Since the pandemic has started, you can clearly see many insurance agents posting on Facebook. The Insurance Commission has allowed insurance agents to go online and use other media to sell products since March 2020, as reported by Inquirer.
