CONFIGURING A NEW DOMAIN WITHIN YOUR CPANEL

If you’ve just registered a domain name and would like to tweak, configure or manage some of its routing settings via your CPanel dashboard, then, stay calm and let this article reveal the major tools and steps that you will need to accomplish your task.

On the CPanel dashboard as shown in the image below, there are mainly 4 options or tools that are provided for configuring or managing a new domain and they include;

1. Addons

2. Aliases

3. Redirects

4. Zone or DNS Editor

Addon Domain

As the name implies, an Addon Domain is a secondary domain within a hosting account. Just like the primary domain, an Addon can have its separate site files, emails and databases but it is

managed within the hosting environment of the primary domain.

This feature gives users the ability to host multiple domains on a single hosting account and manage or configure them independently.

To create an Addon Domain within CPanel, simply follow these steps;

1.Ensure that your new domain nameservers are pointing to your primary domain server

2. Login in to your CPanel where you intend to create the Addon

3. Click the “Addon Domain” item in the Domain section of your CPanel dashboard

4. Fill the form with the New Domain Name (a), Subdomain – a default subdomain is created for all addons as shown at (b), and Document Root (c), which is your desired directory or folder for the Addon site files;
N.B: Ensure that there is no space before or after the domain name.

5. After clicking the “Add Domain” button (d), the Addon will be created and you can always access the directory to upload you website files by clicking its root directory path from the Addon list:

Aliases

Sometimes, you may wish to have multiple domain names for a single website content. With the Alias functionality on the CPanel dashboard, you can simply setup your new domain to load the content of an existing domain. You don’t have to acquire and create duplicate hosting accounts for multiple domain names which have to load or display the same content.

Aliases are very useful when you intend to acquire multiple extensions of your domain name such as zsample.net, zsample.org, zsample.ph, zsample.com.ph, etc., and have them render the same content.

Here are the few steps that will help you in creating Aliases;

1.Ensure that your new domain nameservers are pointing to your primary domain server

2. Login in to your CPanel where you intend to create the Alias

3. Click on “Aliases” in the Domain section of your CPanel dashboard

4. Enter the new domain name in the Domain field (e);
N.B: Ensure that there is no space before or after the domain name.

5. Click the “Add Domain” button (f) and you are all done:

Redirects

Apart from creating a Redirect for your domain name using the Domain management tool on your Clients’ dashboard, you can also use the CPanel redirect tool to redirect any domain, URL path or subdomain that exist in the CPanel account to another domain.

Follow the steps below to setup a redirect for your domain in CPanel:

1.Login in to your CPanel where you intend to create the Redirect

2. Click on the “Redirect” item in the Domain section of your CPanel dashboard

3. Fill the form with appropriate values as shown in the sample image below (g) (h) (i) (j);Note that the field at (i) is left blank because we are not redirecting a specific URL path such as testingforzcomph.com/photo. You can fill-in the directory such as photo in (i), if you intend to do such.

4. Click the “Add” button (k) and that’s it:

Zone or DNS Editor

To create a harmonized DNS management tool, all setups and configuration are done uniformly on the Clients’ service management dashboard. Hence, the “Advanced Zone Editor” will redirect you to the DNS manager on your Z.COM Client Account, where you can create or modify your domain(s) DNS records.
