HOW TO TRANSFER DOMAINS FROM BLUEHOST

This article will guide you through the process of transferring your domain name from Bluehost to your Z.COM account.


1. Basic Requirements
Before initiating a domain transfer process, confirm that the following criteria are satisfied:


a. The domain name to be transferred is over 60 days old from initial registration

b. The domain name has NOT been transferred within the last 60 days

c. The domain name status is not on “Hold”

You can use a WHOIS lookup tool to confirm the above information for your domain and if all are satisfied, you can then move on to check Z.COM domain page to see if your domain name extension is supported by our services.


2. Pause Domain Privacy
If you have domain privacy activated on your domain, then it must be paused (disabled) so that your domain’s contact information in the public WHOIS database is made available to the gaining registrar (Z.COM) and it will be used to contact you regarding the transfer. The following steps will guide you in disabling the privacy settings:


d. Log in to your Bluehost account

e. Click on “Domains” from the main menu at the top of the page

f. Scroll down and select the domain you want to transfer from the list

g. From the sub-tabs that will appear, click the “Privacy” options tab

h. If privacy is enabled, click “Pause Domain Privacy”

3. Review/Update Contact Information
During the transfer process, the information on the domain’s record such as email, will be sent critical information regarding the transfer, so you need to ensure the details are correct. Here is how to review and update your contact information on Bluehost:


i. Log in to your Bluehost account

j. Click on “Domains” from the main menu at the top of the page

k. Scroll down and select the domain you want to transfer from the list

l. From the sub-tabs that will appear, click the “Contacts” tab

m. Check the boxes for registrant, admin, and billing to view and edit the information listed

n. After making the changes, check the box to opt-out of the 60-day transfer lock if it appears

o. Click “Update Contact Information” to save your changes

p. A verification email will be sent to the email addresses and you are to click the sent links to approve the changes

4. Unlock the Domain
Domains on Bluehost are locked by default to prevent unauthorized transfers. Hence, you have to unlock the domains with the steps below:


q. Log in to your Bluehost account

r. Click on “Domains” from the main menu at the top of the page

s. Scroll down and select the domain you want to transfer from the list

t. From the sub-tabs that will appear, click the “Lock” tab

u. If the domain is locked, click “Unlock”

5. Obtain EPP Code
This is unique passcode for the domain is required to authorize transfer. Hence, you will have to provide it to Z.COM when initiating a transfer. The steps below will help you get that of the domain:


v. Log in to your Bluehost account

w. Click on “Domains” from the main menu at the top of the page

x. Scroll down and select the domain you want to transfer from the list

y. From the sub-tabs that will appear, click the “Transfer EPP” tab

z. Copy the code that will be displayed and keep it safe

6. Request for the domain transfer on Z.COM

Once you have completed the processes mentioned above, you can then proceed to place an order for the domain transfer on Z.COM where you will be required to enter the EPP code you got from Bluehost for the domain.
