HOW TO EDIT YOUR .HTACCESS FILE
The .htacess file is an essential and powerful file of configuration information that allows you control over much of the hosting settings for any directory. Some of the settings one makes in cPanel are saved to the .htacess file, but cPanel does not have options for everything that can be done. Where possible it is always better to use cPanel to make the changes to configuration files like .htaccess as it ensures consistency with other settings and avoids having any syntax error in files if you make a mistake.
There is one main .htaccess file in your home directory which affects the whole site, but it is also possible to create .htaccess files in any directory if you have specific settings you wish to apply there. You may for example run WordPress in one folder, Magento in another and a custom PHP script in yet another and all of them may require different settings.
The .htaccess file is edited via the File Manager.
