FAQs

Find answers to frequently asked questions about Domain Transfer.

  • What is Domain Registrar Lock?

Domain Registrar Lock, also known as domain lock or domain transfer lock, is a security feature provided by domain registrars for security to prevent unauthorized transfers of domains.

By default, domain lock is enabled for all your active domains up to 60 days upon registration/transfer.

When a domain is locked, certain domain management activities, particularly transferring the domain to another registrar, are restricted until the lock is removed.

  • What is Authorization Code?

An Authorization Code is Domain Password that is often called an auth code or EPP code, is a unique alphanumeric code that authorizes the domain transfer process.

EPP Code/Auth Code can be generated from your account (Domain Area), hence, for expired and under Grace period domain EPP Code may have to be manually generated, in this case please contact our support team for further assistance.

  • How long does a domain transfer take?

A domain transfer can be completed within 30 minutes. However due to some other factors like type of TLD/domain extension, transfer policies and payment method * used in Z.com, transfer can be completed up to 6-10 days.

Exact timeframe depends on the domain’s TLD, and the time required for your current registrar to complete the transfer process.

    • * Bank transfer payment methods may take longer to process due as payment needs to be validated.
  • Will my website and email be affected during the transfer?

No, transferring the domain does not mean transferring your web and email hosting service. In that case, the website and email are not affected and will still work even after applying for the transfer.

Only when the DNS/nameservers of the domain are updated will a propagation process of 24 to 48 hours be needed before your website and emails work.

  • Can I transfer a newly registered domain, how soon can I transfer my domain?

Unfortunately, a domain must have been registered or last transferred more than 60 days ago to be eligible for a transfer.

For the full checklist to ensure a smooth transition for your domain, click here.

  • Can I transfer an expired domain?

In general, transferring an expired domain to Z.com is not supported. We require that a domain be active for at least 15 days prior to its expiration date to accept a domain transfer order.

However, when it comes to transferring out an expired domain, you do have the right to do so. We are not permitted to deny a transfer due to expiration or non-renewal, unless there are unpaid bills related to your domain's previous registration period.
