How to Resolve Common Domain Transfer-In Errors
Even when all the necessary steps seem complete, a domain transfer can still encounter issues and fail. This guide highlights the common reasons for failed domain transfers to Z.com and how to resolve them.
You can also click here to visit our domain transfer page, where you can transfer a domain, check renewal and transfer prices, and learn the requirements for transferring your domain to Z.com.
1. Domain Eligibility Restrictions
• Domain is within 15 days from expiry.
• Pending disputes or legal issues related to the domain.
• Noncompliance with domain transfer policies set forth by ICANN or specific registries.
• Expired domain.
Solutions:
– Confirm that the domain is not expiring in 15 days. If it is, renew it with the current registrar before transferring it to Z.com.
– Ensure the domain has been registered or transferred for over 60 days.
– Resolve any pending disputes or legal issues related to the domain.
– Make sure the domain complies with ICANN or specific registry transfer policies.
– If your domain has expired, you need to renew it with your current registrar, then refer to the following options:
Note: Transferring a recently renewed expired domain will result in a one-year-only extension in total. After the transfer, even though you have paid for the renewal after expiration, the transfer does not add two years (it only retains the single-year extension).
*You may also refer to this page for more information.
1. Proceed with the transfer — If you still want to proceed with the transfer, kindly contact our customer support to re-process the transfer, but please note that the additional one-year extension will not be applied.
2. Stay with your current registrar — You can keep your domain registration with your current registrar. Please contact our customer support to request a refund.
3. Transfer after 45 days — You can wait for the 45-day transfer restriction to end before initiating the transfer again to ensure a smoother process. *This option ensures that the renewal you paid for is not lost and guarantees that the additional one-year extension is applied when the domain is transferred, giving you a total of two years of renewal.
2. Domain Lock and Privacy Settings
• Domain is locked at the current registrar.
• Enabled WHOIS Privacy (or Domain Privacy Protection).
• Domain lock due to a recent contact update.
Note: The 60-day domain lock policy may vary from one registrar to another. Please review your current registrar’s policy before changing your WHOIS information or transferring to another registrar.
Solutions:
– Unlock the domain at the current registrar.
– Login to your current registrar and Disable WHOIS Privacy (or Domain Privacy Protection).
– Check for recent contact updates and confirm the domain lock is disabled.
3. Authorization and Verification Issues
• Incorrect or invalid EPP (or Auth/Authorisation) code.
• Failure to verify the email transfer confirmation.
Solutions:
– Ensure the correct EPP code is obtained from the current registrar. Some registries regenerate codes at regular intervals for security reasons. If the code changes during an ongoing transfer, it may become invalid. Contact the current registrar for a new code and update it in your transfer request to Z.com.
– Please check your inbox (including your spam or junk folder) for the transfer confirmation email and complete the verification process. Transfer confirmation may differ from one registry to another. Kindly check with your current registry.
4. Contact Information and Registrant Issues
• Incorrect or outdated contact information associated with the domain WHOIS.
• Registrant contact information between the current registrar and the gaining registrar is mismatched.
Solutions:
– Ensure the domain’s WHOIS contact information is correct and up-to-date.
– Verify that the registrant information matches those of the current registrar and Z.com. If there are discrepancies, update the information with the current registrar before initiating the transfer.
Once the solution has been applied, you can return to Z.com or contact our customer support team to reprocess your domain transfer.
