What is the difference between IMAP and POP3?

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) and POP (Post Office Protocol) are different methods for accessing and managing emails on remote computers.

IMAP Email Server Setting configuration stores emails on a server and then syncs them across multiple devices. This is preferred by customers due to its accessibility. IMAP is more advanced than POP3 and allows you to access your email anywhere and on any device. However, this setting can accumulate email data from the server, which may cause the server resource limit to be reached due to email data.

Use IMAP if:
• You work from multiple devices (phone, laptop, tablet, etc.) and use different email clients.
• Sent and received mail is stored on the server until the user permanently deletes it.
• You have a good internet connection and no issues with limited storage space.

Pro: Accessible from multiple devices.
Con: May deplete server disk allocation.

POP3 Email Server Setting downloads emails from a server to a single computer, making them only accessible on that specific device. On the brighter end, the POP3 setting can clear your email data from the server. Customers can access email offline when the internet is not available.

Use POP3 if:
• You only work on a single dedicated device and use one email client.
• You want to save the email data on a local device to access it offline and back up.
• You receive a large number of emails.
• Your internet connection is not stable.

Pro: Server resources disk allocation will not be deflated.
Con: New emails are not saved on the server once downloaded from the email application.
