How to use the Disk Usage tool in cPanel

The best tool for checking how much space you are using on your hosting account is the Disk Usage tool in cPanel. It is designed to help you monitor and manage your server storage space.

Fundamentally, the disk usage tool quickly shows you where your usage comes from and helps you remove unnecessary data. Follow the steps below to learn how to use the cPanel disk usage tool.

1. Access cPanel directly through your Z.com account.

2. Once you have reached the cPanel dashboard, locate Disk Usage under the Files area.

3. The main screen shows a graphical representation of your disk usage by file and folder name. Current usage is displayed with blue bars on the right column; longer bars represent higher usage.

Note: Email Accounts and Other Usage refers to the files outside your home directory that the system uses to store email metadata in the mail directory, cPanel core files, including deleted files within the trash folder.

4. Scroll down to sort directories by section. You can sort and view specific directories by name or disk usage in both MB (megabytes) and bytes*.
*1 MB = 1,048,576 Bytes, 1 GB = 1,024 MB

5. To sort the file directory by size, click the Disk Usage option. Click > to expand and check the subdirectory beside each folder for more details.

Based on the findings from the disk usage tool, we are now able to use the cPanel file manager to locate and clean up the large files saved on the server. To process your data cleanup, click on the specific folder link, and you will be redirected to the file manager area.

Note: Storing backups or video materials on your server is not recommended, as this may deplete disk resources.
